The spiral classifier (CS) is one of the oldest types of equipment for separating granular materials by size in water. The operation of the spiral classifier is based on the difference in the free fall velocity of solid material particles in an aqueous medium. It is intended for the separation of crushed materials into two fractions mainly in the size range of 0.05-3.0 mm. Sometimes spiral classifiers are used to wash ore from impurities of clay materials, while the maximum feed size can reach 10-15 mm.
Advantages of spiral classifiers
The advantages of spiral classifiers include simplicity of design, low power consumption and the possibility of using them in closed grinding cycles without the use of pumps. Spiral classifiers are successfully used as part of enlarged continuous laboratory installations and at experimental processing plants.
